TIME ZONE: EST
CHARACTER PB: Kristen Bell
CHARACTER JOURNAL: harlequinnade
CODENAME: Harley Quinn
AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 28 / April 4, 1984
OCCUPATION: Joker's #1 Gal Pal
APPEARANCE: A short blonde with sparkling blue eyes, Harley comes off as an innocent child rather than a murderous sidekick. Her facial expressions are incredibly animate, making it easy to spot what the bubbly blonde is feeling. Her body is incredibly toned from years of gymnastics and no matter the amount of sugar or fat she consumes, she manages to maintain her lithe figure.
When costumed, Harley's face is painted white with a black mask covering her eyes. Her suit is form fitting, patterned in black and red with interchanging diamonds on her arms and legs.
PERSONALITY: Harley has an incredibly expressive personality. She is quick to trust, quick to love, and quick to anger, and does not shy from showing whatever she feels to those around her. She is an unpredictable force of vivacious insanity.
Her extreme optimism and loyalty leaves Harley open for manipulation. The only fault she finds in others is a lack of humor, which she tries to remedy with inappropriate jokes and innocent charm. When left to her own devices, Harley is flirty, fearless, and over-the-top, determined to let love win out above all else.
The extremes in her personality can be seen most when she is with or without the Joker. Around him, she wishes nothing but his happiness and does whatever she can to provide him with laughter. No matter the moral strain some of the Joker's requests may take, she completes them all in the name of love. Unfortunately, her actions often lead to incredible mistakes and abuse from the Joker, that she embraces as a sign of affection.
She rarely lashes out against the Joker, but when she finds a flight of independence within fellow villains, she is quick to follow it and often claims to be over her obsession. Despite such strong words, Harley's infatuation leaves her longing for the Joker. Every action and gag leaves her pining for the clown and while she still laughs, she is never truly happy without him. It only takes a simple coo from the clown prince to bring her back to his side, ready to serve him once more.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Harley is skilled in acrobatics with over fifteen years of gymnastics training. She knows a few things about flips and somersaults, and uses this to her advantage when it comes to dodging the knives and bullets of love.
While Harley may have slept through many of her classes in order to receive her psychiatry degree, she is quite observant when it comes to issues of the mind. Unfortunately, she often doubts her findings and latches onto the ideas of others.
During a brief stint with Poison Ivy, Harley was given a special concoction brewed by the biologist. The shot left Harely with an immunity to all toxins (proving useful against the Joker's various gases) as well as granting her superhuman strength and agility.
Her equipment is varied, ranging from simple knives and guns, to oversized mallets, boxing-glove guns, and rubber chickens. Whatever brings a smile to her face will, at some point, be implemented into her makeshift weaponry.
RESIDENCE/LAIR/SAFE HOUSE: The Love Nest ((Note: I just put this down as I am not sure where the Joker player plans on housing him. I will change it at the start of game once I know more))
HISTORY: Harleen Quinzel's life was not as glamorous as she could have hoped for. The eldest of two, Harley desperately did all she could to help her mother while her father rotted away in prison for another scam. Every time he was freed, his promises to mend the family back together gave her hope, and she worked harder than ever to aid him and time after time, his promises fell short and he was locked away once more.
Wanting nothing more than to understand her father's actions, Harley found a sport she excelled at and worked to achieve a full-ride to the University of Gotham through gymnastics. No matter how hard she tried to succeed, her work was sub-par. She began to manipulate her professors and tutors in order to succeed in her classes, and soon she found herself on the way to Arkham Asylum as a young, up-and-coming psychiatrist.
Doctor Harleen Quinzel was calm, professional, and determined to crack the hardest of minds. Her obsession with the criminal mystique led her from patient to patient, fudging paperwork and charming her fellow doctors until she was allowed to see the only man of interest within the hollowed halls of Arkham; the Joker. Harley was determined to get the dirt on Gotham's most destructive criminal in order to achieve fame and fortune, but the more she learned about the clown, the more she became entranced. Her poor, misunderstood patient wanted nothing more than to see the world smile and she knew she was the only one who could help him.
Harleen Quinzel transformed herself into Harley Quinn and became the Joker's self-proclaimed sidekick. Determined to do whatever she could to make him smile, she has now found herself involved in numerous heists and police cars. Gaga for the Joker, no amount of time in Arkham has broken her of her obsession, and despite the abusive nature of the relationship, she always finds her way back into Mistah J's good graces despite the protest of her fellow villainous friends.
MISC. INFO.: Harley has made friends with a number of Gotham's villains, making her a formidable force if the cause arises.
PLOT IDEAS: -Going rogue (rogue). The chaos that Gotham is now in does not suit Harley well. She can cope with the Joker or her friends, but with a heavy heart. She truly does want to help Gotham and it would be nice to see her making the effort, however misunderstood it may be.
-Gotham City Sirens! If the characters arise, it would be great to play them in the Gotham landscape.
-Hero For A Day - I would love for Harley to force herself as a makeshift sidekick upon a hero. It would be a lighthearted scene where all good intentions don't quite make it. It would just be fun for her to interact with a hero for one reason or another.
WRITING SAMPLE: Somewhere in Gotham, a mad man waited.
Harley knew he was out there, no matter what the papers said. Praying on the helpless, destroying the very foundations on which humanity thrived. He was waiting, poised and ready to strike. There was already so much blood on his hands, why would he stop now? No one stood a chance against him; the Batman.
People had foolishly assumed he was their hero, sent to deliver them from the evils of crime and corruption. They may have been tricked, but not her. Oh no. Harley Quinn would never let the Bat pull a fast one on her.
"Harley Quinn?" she murmured the name to herself around the nail of the index finger she had been gnawing on. That had been the name the Joker had given to her in one of their meetings. A title received by criminal royalty.
No, not criminal. He was just another innocent victim of that masked rodent and he was reaching out for her help.
She opened the largest drawer on her desk and pulled out the two cards that had mysteriously placed in her office ever since the Joker's escape. The cardboard was bent and mishapen from being handled, but the messages were still clear:
Keep on Smiling
Dress to impress
She turned the cards in her hand clockwise, then counter-clockwise, repeating the motions over and over as she contemplated just what she was going to do to follow the instructions given to her.
Poor, poor Mister J. How long she had kept him waiting. There had only been so much she could do for him in the confines of the now lackluster asylum. In the city, she could give him everything he needed. Affection, protection...everything.
She could save him.
It was only when she reached the closet of her bedroom that she even realized she had moved away from her desk. Her hands were already wrapped tightly around the article she had been searching for. Dress to impress...
Harley admired the way the suit still fit snugly even after her Sorority years. All the red and black costume needed now was a little flare and then...
"Welcome to Gotham, Harley Quinn."
